SAGE Inc., a Delaware corporation ("SAGE," "we," "us" or "our"), is a public benefit company that reads the risk of every farm field with AI, combining satellite imagery, soil, water, weather, crop and risk data. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through our website at sage.ag and our app at app.sage.ag (together, the "Services"), why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the choices and rights you have. It applies alongside our Terms of Use.
1. Our approach to your data
Four commitments shape everything in this policy. They appear on our website, and the sections below explain how we keep them.
- Your data, your call. You decide what to share with SAGE and who else may see it.
- Opt in. Nothing is collected unless you choose to share it.
- Share what you choose. Field by field, record by record.
- Leave any time. Revoke access and your personal data leaves the system completely.
In practice, the personal information we hold is what you choose to give us: a message, a waitlist entry, an account, or farm data you decide to share. Like every website, ours must also handle a little technical information, such as your IP address, to deliver pages and keep out spam and attacks (see section 4). We never use it to build a profile of you.
2. Information you choose to give us
The Contact us form
When you write to us, you choose the description that fits you best (I grow, I insure or lend, I care, or something else) and give us your name and email address. Depending on your choice, the form also asks for:
- Growers: your county and state, and what you farm.
- Insurers and lenders: your company and your role.
- Researchers, conservation groups and supporters: your organization and the ways you would like to help (fund research, partner with us, share land or data, or spread the word).
- Everyone: a message in your own words.
We store each submission in a database hosted by Cloudflare and send it to our team inbox as an email notification, so the right person can reply. A hidden field that people never see helps us filter out automated bots.
The waitlist
If you join the waitlist on our sign-in page, we ask for your name, email address and role (grower, agronomist or advisor, insurer or lender, or something else). Growers may also add their location (county and state) and acres. Those extra details are optional.
Your SAGE account
If you have an account in the SAGE app, we collect the email address and password you use to sign in. If you forget your password, we send a reset link to that email address. We use these details to sign you in, keep your account secure and contact you about the service.
Please do not send us sensitive information we have not asked for, such as bank or card numbers or government identifiers.
3. Farm data in the SAGE app
In the app, growers can choose to connect or share field and farm data, such as field boundaries, yield, planting records, soil tests and farming practices ("farm data"). Sharing is always a choice, and you can make it field by field and record by record.
- Your farm data remains yours. Sharing it with SAGE does not transfer ownership to us.
- We use it for two purposes only: to provide the service to you (for example, to read the risk of your fields and show you the results), and, in de-identified and aggregated form only, to improve our models.
- De-identified and aggregated means combined with other data and stripped of details so that it can no longer reasonably be linked to you, your operation or a particular field. We keep such data in that form and do not attempt to re-identify it.
- Others see it only with your permission. An insurer, lender, agronomist or anyone else receives field-level risk information about your fields only if you grant them access in the app. You can revoke that access at any time.
- You can ask us to delete it, as described in section 8.
Some farm data, such as precise field boundaries, can reveal a location. We use it only to provide the service you asked for, and we do not use it to infer anything about you as a person.
4. Information processed automatically
Technical information
When you visit sage.ag or app.sage.ag, your browser and our hosting provider, Cloudflare, exchange the technical information needed to deliver each page, such as your IP address, browser and device type, the page requested and the time. Cloudflare uses it to serve and protect the Services and may keep it for a limited time in operational and security logs, as described in the Cloudflare privacy policy.
Spam protection
The Contact us form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from bots, which may involve processing signals from your device and browser. Turnstile does not set tracking cookies for advertising, and we use its result only to decide whether a submission is genuine.
Browser storage and cookies
The website uses your browser's local storage and session storage only for small preferences, for example to remember that you have already seen our launch announcement. These preferences stay in your browser, and you can clear them at any time. The app may also use strictly necessary cookies or similar storage to keep you signed in and protect your session.
What we do not use
The website has no advertising cookies, third-party analytics, ad trackers or social media pixels, and our fonts and scripts are served from our own site. Apart from Cloudflare, which hosts the website and runs Turnstile, the only outside services a page of the website contacts are the two that power the map in section 5.
5. The From above map
Our home page includes a map called From above that shows aerial photographs of farmland. Two outside services make it work, and your browser contacts them directly:
- Place search. When you type a place into the map, your browser sends the search text to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim geocoding service. The OpenStreetMap Foundation receives that text, together with your IP address and browser information, under its privacy policy.
- Aerial photographs. The photographs come from the USDA National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) and are loaded by your browser from Microsoft Planetary Computer for the area shown on the map. Microsoft receives those requests, including your IP address and the area requested, under the Microsoft privacy statement.
SAGE does not store your map searches. If you would rather not share a search with these services, skip the search box; the rest of the site does not need it.
6. How we use information
We use personal information to:
- reply to you and continue the conversation you started;
- manage the waitlist, tell you when access opens and keep you posted about SAGE, until you ask us to stop;
- create and run your account, sign you in, reset your password and provide the service;
- read the risk of your fields and show the results to you and to the people you authorize;
- improve our models, using farm data only in de-identified and aggregated form;
- keep the Services secure, stop spam, fraud and abuse, and fix problems; and
- comply with the law, respond to lawful requests and enforce our Terms of Use.
We do not sell personal information. We do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not use it for targeted advertising.
7. How we share information
We share personal information only in the following ways:
- Service providers. Cloudflare hosts our website and provides its database (D1), serverless computing (Workers), spam protection (Turnstile) and email delivery. Google hosts our app through its Firebase platform. Service providers may use personal information only to provide their services to us.
- People you choose. When you grant an insurer, lender, advisor or other party access in the app, we share the information you chose with them, and nothing more. When you ask us to put you in touch with someone, such as an insurance partner, we share what that introduction needs.
- Legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that the law requires it (for example, a valid subpoena or court order) or that it is needed to protect the rights, safety or property of our users, the public or SAGE.
- Business changes. If SAGE is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing or sale of assets, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction. The recipient must honor this policy for the information transferred, or we will tell you in advance and give you the chance to have your information deleted first.
- With your consent. In any other case, we share personal information only if you agree.
Insurance partners
SAGE, Aon and AgriCap are bringing precision crop insurance to US corn and soybean growers beginning next year. SAGE is not an insurer, insurance agent or broker, and our website does not offer or sell insurance. If you apply for or buy insurance through a licensed partner, that partner handles your information under its own privacy notice, and SAGE shares your field-level information with a partner only with your permission.
Revoking a permission stops further sharing from that moment. Information a partner already received while it had your permission stays with that partner under its own privacy notice and legal obligations, such as insurance record-keeping rules.
8. Your choices and controls
- Share only what you want. Optional fields are optional, and in the app you decide which fields and records to share.
- Change or revoke access. In the app, you can grant or revoke another party's access at any time.
- Correct your information. Tell us if something is wrong and we will fix it.
- Delete your information. Ask us to delete your contact form submission, your waitlist entry, your account or your farm data by writing to info@sage.ag or using our contact form.
- Stop hearing from us. Reply to any email from us, or write to info@sage.ag, and we will stop sending updates. We may still send messages you need, such as a password reset you requested.
When you leave, your personal data leaves too. We delete it from our active systems, and copies in routine backups are overwritten on their normal cycle and never restored. We keep something only if the law requires it, and we will tell you if so. Data already de-identified and aggregated into our models can no longer be linked to you, so it is not personal data and cannot be singled out for removal.
9. How long we keep information
- Contact form submissions and waitlist entries: as long as they are relevant to our conversation with you or to your place on the waitlist, or until you ask us to remove them. We review this information at least once a year and delete what is no longer needed.
- Account information, including farm data you shared: for the life of your account. After an account is closed, we delete or de-identify this information within a reasonable period.
- Technical information: Cloudflare keeps operational and security logs for limited periods under its own policies.
- Legal requirements: if the law requires us to keep particular records, or we need them to resolve a dispute or enforce our terms, we keep only those records, only as long as necessary.
10. Security
We use administrative, technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information, including encrypted connections, limits on who can access it, and spam and abuse protection. No system is completely secure. If a security incident affects your personal information, we will notify you and the authorities as the law requires.
You can help by using a strong, unique password and telling us right away at info@sage.ag if you think someone else has used your account.
11. Children
The Services are meant for adults who work in or care about agriculture. They are not directed to children under 13, or under 16 where local law sets a higher age, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, write to info@sage.ag and we will delete it.
12. Your US state privacy rights
California and a growing number of other states have comprehensive privacy laws that give their residents rights over their personal information. We honor the requests below from anyone in the United States, whether or not their state's law requires it.
- Access: to know what personal information we hold about you, why we use it and who we disclose it to, and to receive a copy.
- Correction: to have inaccurate information fixed.
- Deletion: to have your personal information deleted, subject to the limited exceptions the law allows.
- Portability: to receive your information in a portable, commonly used format.
- Opt out: to refuse the sale or sharing of personal information, targeted advertising and certain profiling. We do not sell or share personal information or use it for targeted advertising, and we treat a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser as an opt-out request.
- Sensitive information: to limit the use of sensitive personal information. We use account log-in credentials, and precise location information from field boundaries you share, only to provide the service you request and keep it secure, as the law permits.
- No discrimination: we will not deny you service, charge you a different price or give you a different quality of service because you exercised these rights.
How to make a request
Email info@sage.ag or use our contact form. To protect you, we confirm that a request comes from you, usually by checking that it was sent from the email address we have on file, and for account information we may ask you to sign in. An authorized agent may make a request for you; we will ask for proof of their authority and may confirm with you directly. We respond within the time the law allows, generally 45 days.
Appeals
If we decline your request, you may appeal by writing to info@sage.ag with "Appeal" in the subject line. We will respond in writing within the time your state's law requires. If you are not satisfied, you may contact your state attorney general.
Categories of information
For California residents, and others whose laws call for this detail: we collect identifiers (name, email address, IP address); professional information (company, organization, role); farm and commercial information (what you farm, acres, farm data you share); location information (county and state, and field boundaries you share); account log-in credentials; and internet or network activity (the technical information in section 4). This information comes from you and from your browser or device. We use it for the purposes in section 6, disclose it only as described in section 7, and keep it as described in section 9. We have not sold personal information or shared it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
13. Visitors from the EEA and UK
Our Services are designed for agriculture in the United States. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the GDPR or the UK GDPR applies to how we handle your personal information, and SAGE Inc. is the controller.
Legal bases
- Consent, for information and farm data you choose to share and for permissions you grant. You can withdraw consent at any time, without affecting earlier processing.
- Contract, to provide your account and the service you signed up for.
- Legitimate interests, to reply to your messages, manage the waitlist, keep the Services secure and free of spam (including through Turnstile), and improve our models with de-identified, aggregated data, where your rights do not outweigh those interests.
- Legal obligation, where the law requires us to process or keep information.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent. To use these rights, write to info@sage.ag. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority or, in the UK, to the Information Commissioner's Office.
International transfers
SAGE is based in the United States, and we and our service providers may process your information in the United States and other countries whose laws may differ from yours. Where the law requires, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses and the UK equivalent.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as SAGE grows. We will post the new version on this page with a new "Last updated" date, and we will tell you before a material change takes effect, by email or with a notice on the website. If a change would let us use personal information or farm data you already shared in a materially different way, we will ask for your consent first.
15. Contact us
Questions, requests and complaints are welcome. Write to info@sage.ag, use our contact form, or send mail to SAGE Inc., Attn: Privacy, 1015 Lemon St., Menlo Park, CA 94025.
